Nanumpa na bilang ika-17 pangulo ng Pilipinas ang 64-anyos na si Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Sa ginanap na nakaraang halalan nitong Mayo, ang nakababatang Marcos ang unang pangulo ng bansa na nahalal na may “majority vote” mula noong 1986 EDSA Revolution dahil sa mahigit 31 milyon na boto na nakuha niya o 58% ng mga boto.
Si Senate President Vicente Sotto III ang nagbasa ng proclamation sa pagkapanalo ni Marcos sa halalan nitong Huwebes. Matapos nito, inilagay ni Marcos ang kaniyang kamay sa Bibliya at binasa ang panunumpa sa harap ni Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.
“We’ve been through times of bitter division but united we came through to this when we shall begin again. But better,” sabi ni Marcos sa kaniyang inaugural address.
“I’ve listened to you and this is what I have heard. We all want peace in our land. You and your children want a chance at a better hope in a safer and more prosperous country,” patuloy niya.
“All that is within reach of a hard-working, warm and giving race. Your dreams are mine. Ang pangarap n’yo ay pangarap ko,” sabi pa ng bagong pangulo.
Bago naging pangulo, nagsilbi si Marcos bilang senador mula 2010 hanggang 2016. Naging kongresista rin siya ng Ilocos Norte mula 1992-1995 at 2007-2010.
Naging gobernador ng Ilocos Norte mula 1983-1986 at 1998-2007, at vice governor ng lalawigan noong 1981-1983.
Kabiyak ni Marcos sa buhay si Attorney Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, at mayroon silang tatlong anak na sina Ferdinand “Sandro” Alexander III (kongresista ngayon sa Ilocos Norte), Joseph Simon at William Vincent.
